Chinese export porcelain tea bowls and saucers, arms of Count of Barca, c. 1810, Jiaqing reign, Qing dynasty - TWO LEFT

  • Antique Chinese porcelain

Rare Chinese export porcelain set of four tea bowls and saucers, decorated in opaque enamels from the famille rose palette with the arms of ANTÓNIO DE ARAÚJO E AZEVEDO, first and only COUNT OF BARCA, c. 1800, Jiaqing reign, Qing dynasty.

Unusually this coat of arms was embellished by the Italian artist Francesco Bartollozzi (1725-1815) working in Portugal in the late 18th/early 19th centuries after leaving Great Britain in a hurry due to an amorous liaison.

Very few European coats of arms in Chinese export porcelain were rearranged by artists.
