Exceptionally well painted Chinese export porcelain spittoon (zhadou) or “slop vase” decorated in underglaze cobalt blue (qinghua) with an upper band with plants and a lower one with sea life, the base with the Jiajing six character mark in a double circle but c. 1700, Kangxi reign, Qing dynasty,h. 11,4 cm, 4½ in; d. 19 cm, 4 in. 1.12174 Bespoke box.

This form (without the handle) has been manufactured in China since the 9th century to be used at the table for remnants of liquids or as spittoons.
