◆ A dinner service with this pattern of borders with a different Chinese domestic scene in every piece is known to have been in the possession of Nelson Rockefeller in the 1960/70s and from whom it took the name.

Grandson of John D. Rockefeller Sr., founder of Standard Oil and maybe the man with the greatest fortune ever in the United States, and son of John D. Rockefeller Jr., had an illustrious political career serving four terms as governor of New York and was vice-present under Gerald Ford.

He was an avid collector and patron of the arts and died in New York in 1979. The Metropolitan Museum of Art has an entire wing named in his honour.

Nelson Rockefeller
